Toilet Troubles Tonight!
I got a rental call tonight. The tenants left a message about the toilet not working on the answering machine. I called the tenant to get more detail about the problem and was able to learn that the water wouldn't drain away. Since it was about 7:00 P.M. I told them it might be tomorrow before a plumber could get there. They said that was acceptable since the upstairs bathroom still worked. When purchasing a rental, do keep in mind that having two bathrooms is a big plus for several reasons, but tonight the benefit was that it kept this from being an emergency requiring a plumber and paying overtime rates. If I waited until after work tomorrow to check it out myself, I may still have to hire a plumber which probably couldn't get there until the next day unless I wanted to pay overtime rates. I really wanted to see the problem myself because I can unplug some clogs and avoid the $100 plumber bill. However, It was 7:00 P.M. and it would be around 8:00 P.M. by the time I loaded some tools and drove back into town. It would probably take 15 minutes to unplug the toilet and another 45 minutes for the trip home. This gets me home at 9:00 P.M. and causes me to miss the "Big Bang Theory" which is my favorite show. My son is a lot like the guys on that show. I finally decided that I wouldn't pay $100 to watch the show and I could still call the plumber tomorrow if I failed to fix the problem tonight. I went in. I plunged and plunged without success. I then tried a $15.00 toilet cable which unplugged the toilet. This is the first time in 30 years I've been able to unplug a drain myself with a drain cable. I saved $100 and had a success. I'm giddy tonight!! I'll resume the lock talk later this week.
